About Me

Hello, my name is Luke Abbott, I'm a writer and welcome to my little corner of the internet. What you'll find in this blog are poems, short stories and other forms of literature by me. I hope you enjoy you're time here, and the works I have put together.
But, since you're here in this section, you're curious to know more about who the writer is, and why he does what he does. So, here it is:

This sounds pretty cliché, but I never envisioned my life to head down this path of creative writing. It wasn't until I was assigned a writing exercise that I realised I had a knack for this sort of thing. Even when I was in High School, having done a spot of creative writing during English class, never did I try to take the talent further, even when my work was the best in the class at the time, I never pursued a career in writing.
Going back even further, I didn't care all that much about reading either. I guess it was a lack of knowledge, and not respecting the medium enough, also being way too young to care about anything not with flashing lights and/or colours. Everything changed, though, when I was given a Goosebumps book, No.25, Attack of the Mutant by R.L. Stine by my Mum on one Christmas morning. A horror book about a supervillain coming to life, and terrorising a comic book fan? Yes, please. It was everything I loved in my young age; horror, and comics, which is something that's never left me now in my adult life. I hold that book close to my heart.
Because of it, I started concocting stories of my own, though they were mostly, heavily inspired by Mr. Stine's amazing series, they were the beginnings of a series of events leading me down this road, though I didn't realise it at the time. Looking back on these past experiences, it makes sense that this would be my life.

Fast forward to 2011, where I entered a creative festival for all talents. I was intrigued that writing was a category, so I submitted two poems and a short story. Not to toot my own horn, or anything, but my works went down well with those reading and I was told I “should write a book”. This was one of many instances where I was told I had a talent for writing, except this time I decided to do something about it.
That year, I created this very blog that you see today, and decided I'd submit my poems, short stories and whatever to the site for all to read. Its been 6 years since I made this blog, where the view count is in the triple digits daily, and my work has been liked and spoken about positively by others. Its a humbling experience to put yourself out there and be appreciated by people. This medium isn't easy, and anyone who says otherwise is lying. A lot of hard work goes into any endeavour you put yourself in, but its through determination, commitment and patience that you can succeed, and I consider myself a success for those points. Its okay to recognise your self worth, in fact, its encouraged. There's nothing arrogant about it.

I also ramble about positivity whether I see or hear it. In a world where hate is increasing, I find it important to talk about the nicer side of humanity. We all need to hear it.

So, what are you getting yourself in for by visiting my blog? Well, my ideas involve things I'm inspired about; movies, comics, videogames and the like, geeky stuff, so expect that, but I don't write just about anything involving those subjects. I act on setting a theme, for something we can all relate to, so if I feel there's a message to be told, I will write it, even if it involves superheroes, and space police.
If that's something that interests you (and why wouldn't it?), then by all means stick around. If not? Stick around anyway, there may be something you'll like seeping out of my over imaginative brain.
Lets take this journey together, and see where it leads us.
