My Shadow, My Friend (Poem)

What do you have when you feel you have nothing? Some say family while others say friends, but have they ever considered the value of their own shadow? Probably not, but this poem reflects on it.
What do you think?

MY SHADOW, MY FRIEND

Who do you turn to when you need them most?
Your family? Your friends? Or how about your dark ghost?
It may not listen,
It may not speak,
But it’s the greatest companion you could ever seek.

It never gives you flack,
It always has your back.
It never threats or demands,
It always lends a hand.
It never runs or hides,
It always stays by your side.
Through thick and thin, when your most alone, I know
There’s no greater comfort than your own shadow.

Place hand on wall, and you will find
A connection that is intertwined.
Stronger than flesh,
Stronger than blood,
Your harshest trails are understood.
Throughout the ages, throughout it all,
Your mimic makes your pains seem small.
For who can be trusted when life is through?
Who else can be trusted, if that one isn’t you?
