Warm Bodies (Movie Review)

Like I mentioned in my previous movie review (The Grey, found here), I'm only going to write about movies that have impressed me enough to actually write about them, and, yes, "Warm Bodies" is one of them. How can this be? Read on:

WARM BODIES

Alright, lets get this out of the way: No, this isn't Twilight, and its not trying to be. Yes, its a love story, and yes its a love story about a human girl and a monster boy, but this is in no way like that vampire-lite movie. Okay? Okay.
Now that's out of the way, lets begin this review:

I know what your thinking, because I thought the same thing: "Not another teen, love story that pretends to be a horror movie", but believe me when I say, it's actually pretty good. In fact, scratch that, it's very good.
Zombies, and romance don't really go together, especially when that romance is with a zombie (eww, gross) but the way it's presented, the way it all ties together is actually quite plausible. Well, about as plausible as it can get in a zombie movie, and lets not forget this IS a zombie movie. They moan, they shuffle, they seek the brains of the living, and even get some munching on. These guys know what they are, and stick to the rules of being a zombie, no reimaginings here (or sparkling in the sunlight, for that matter). They do, however, begin to talk, begin to think for themselves, dream, and even feel like they used to before they were dead, like how to love. On paper, this isn't the sort of idea that'd captivate me, but the author of the book, which this movie is based on (yep, another adaptation, but what isn't these days?), and the filmmakers obviously pay enough respect to the zombie genre to not make it look ridiculous. Remember, another certain filmmaking legend made a zombie movie where the undead, left alive long enough, would eventually remember how to do things. It's not new, but it doesn't have to be with the story involved. It makes sense, for a zombie movie.
But don't worry zombie fans, it isn't all lovey dovey with the living dead, there is danger and a sense of threat throughout. With the zombies turning good, and becoming the least of the humans problems, a new enemy arises, which the film calls "Boney's". The result of zombies losing all traces of their humanity, and rotting away to the scale of skeletons. They're quick, remorseless, and relentlessly attack anything with a heartbeat, which means humans and our new zombie friends. Uh, oh.
These guys are freaky, and bring with them a dreadful presence, meaning something bad is about to go down for the characters, and something usually does. They're great serving as the films villains, showing the uncompromising nature of the plague that's brought humanity to its knees.

If you can believe "Warm Bodies" is a good movie, then you'll also find it has something for everyone. Horror, action, comedy, romance, and drama, and not one overshadows the other, with a script that makes you feel for each of the living, and undead, characters that you otherwise thought you wouldn't.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll squirm, but above all else, you'll have a great time watching this latest teen comedy about zombies, even if the ending gets a little touchy feely for my tastes.
Take a bite out of this!
