Better Off (Poem)
Better Off
As sure as the sun rises,
I try on many disguises.
Not wanting to be seen by the naked eye,
least none that'll make grown men cry.
Because as I see that smile on your face,
my hopes and dreams vanish without a trace.
Your pure ambitions are trouble free,
why would you ever worry about me?
I try on many disguises.
Not wanting to be seen by the naked eye,
least none that'll make grown men cry.
Because as I see that smile on your face,
my hopes and dreams vanish without a trace.
Your pure ambitions are trouble free,
why would you ever worry about me?
No amount of sin,
can penetrate within.
Helping those in need,
is part of your creed.
All your goals you have in mind,
your journey set, easy to find.
It pains me to never meet your best,
so why interfere on your glorious quest?
A future without us, I refuse to think.
But seeing you makes my heart sink.
because of the fullness of joy I feel,
it isn't, I'm afraid, remotely real.
Love, they say, is a two way street,
but how can I love someone so neat?
That may seem particularly odd.
which is why you can do without this silly sod.
You can do so much more,
without this despicable bore.
I'm still clinging to that brick wall,
while you leap without breaking a fall,
and though the dream may seem tantalizing,
its time I quit this excessive fantasizing.
I say my goodbye, and save you a scoff,
making peace with the idea; "you're better off".
can penetrate within.
