Trick Or Eat Us Preview (NEW BOOK COMING SOON)
Hello everybody. I'm back, but with something a little special. I've published another book, and, yes, its another poetry book but instead of being a collection of poems mashed into one book, its one, single story told in poem form about my favourite holiday season: Halloween.
Hey, who doesn't love Halloween? Dressed as your favourite monster, scoring sweets from strangers (always have a parent/guardian accompany you, kids), watching your favourite movies or TV shows based around the season, its fantastic, and nothing gets me into the mood quite like seeing goblins, and ghouls hanging up in shop windows.
When I see the leaves begin to change colour, and fall from their high places, I know that means only one thing: Halloween, baby, and I can't get enough of it. I can't honestly tell you why I love Halloween so much, there are too many reasons to list I can't place it with just one, but, ironically, its the only time when I feel truly alive, and excited about anything, so it made sense for me to write something about it, and let me tell you, it was fun.
"Trick Or Eat Us" is a story I've had in my head for a good while now, years in fact. It tells the tale of five kids, who discover the Halloween props and costumes look too real, making them realise the town they live in is actually populated by real monsters. But instead of getting freaked out about it, they get excited and transform their trick or treating rounds into monster hunting. Inspired from movies like The Goonies, Monster Squad and Amblin style classics, where kids don't run away from danger, but seek it out and embark on an adventure along the way, finding out things about themselves and the world around them. I grew up on those types of movies, and I'm still a sucker for them.
Originally, I tried to write this as a short story/novella, but, for whatever reason, it worked better as a poem, so I went with that and I'm happy that I did. It gave a unique perspective to a story I was already half way through, but disappointed in. I'm glad I was able to finish a "passion project" in such a time as I did, and its all thanks to poetry.
If all goes well, this new book of mine will/should be out some time next week (I really wanted it to be out last week, but things got in the way). I hope you all enjoy it, and have fun reading it when it does arrive in online book stores.
Until then you can keep checking the site for poems, and short stories both new and old.
